Diabetic Eye Disease

The risk of retinal disease increases with the length of time and poor control of your diabetes due to the damage to the fine blood vessels from elevated blood sugar levels.

Diabetes affects almost 1 in 10 Australians. With the increase in obesity, lack of physical exercise, poor diet and lifestyle choices, we are at increasing risk of developing diabetes, especially in middle age.

There is an increased risk of eye complications with diabetes,  especially in those with poor control and those who have had diabetes for 10 years or more.

In a comprehensive eye examination, we use specialised equipment to capture the earliest changes in the eye. Early detection means prevention from severe vision loss from diabetic eye disease.
